You can restrict communication between teams or roles by applying group messaging rules. These rules help you stay compliant, reduce distractions, and protect sensitive boundaries across your organisation.
⚠️ Important: To proceed with this process, you need Administrator permissions.
Group messaging restrictions
Group messaging restrictions control who can start conversations with other users.
You define rules between Access Evo user groups to block or limit communication where needed.
You can use group messaging restrictions to achieve various outcomes. For example:
To stop junior staff from messaging senior leadership directly.
To block communication between departments such as HR and Finance.
To enforce site‑level boundaries in healthcare or hospitality settings.
Create a rule
To create a communication restriction rule between groups, follow these simple steps:
Click Moderation Tools, then click Information Barriers.
Click Group in the first drop-down, then choose the relevant one from the populated list.
Click Group in the second drop-down, then choose the appropriate one that the first group can't send messages to.
Click Save Rule.
How the rules work
Each user is assigned to one or more groups. You can then apply one-way blocking rules between those groups, so they only affect who can start a message, but don’t impact the ability to reply to a sent message.
Rule format | Description of expectation |
Group A → Group B | Members of Group A can't message members of Group B. |
Group A → Group A | Members of Group A can't message each other. |
Example
User | Groups |
James | Group 1 |
Giorgiana | Group 2 |
Andrew | Group 1 + Group 2 |
You apply the rule Group 1 → Group 2.
The outcome of this is that:
James in Group 1 can't message Giorgiana in Group 2.
Giorgiana in Group 2 can message James in Group 1.
Andrew, in both groups, can message both users.
Use case
This feature is ideal when you need to:
Maintain operational boundaries between departments.
Prevent unauthorised access or contact between roles.
Enforce role-based communication policies.
