Release Details:

  • Release Date: 02 September 2026

  • Type: Automatic release

  • Action required: None

Features:

Broadcasts -improved (BETA) — A broadcast is a message sent to a list of recipients. Each message is delivered into the sender's genuine 1:1 chat with each recipient, so the recipient just sees a normal direct message with a small megaphone marker on it. Admins can send follow-up messages to the whole list at any time, and existing chats — including ones originally created in the old app — are reused rather than duplicated.

  • From the broadcast panel header, an info icon opens a read-only list of everyone the broadcast was sent to, sorted A–Z.

  • Broadcasts is still a fully feature flagged and permission-gated area — non-administrators no longer see the section at all.

Video attachments now play in the web app — Fully support for .mp4 files shared through Messenger play inline in a custom player with standard controls and fullscreen, including in mixed image/video galleries.

Transferable group administrators — Group chats now have an administrator rather than relying on whoever created them. The administrator is identified in the member list and can't be removed from it, and when an administrator leaves the group, administration is automatically handed to another member and announced in the chat.

Dark mode — A Dark mode switch in Settings applies across the whole app, including the conversation pane, with brand colours, avatars and status chips all tuned to stay legible on dark surfaces.

Desktop push notifications — A Desktop notifications toggle in Settings. Once permission is granted, new messages raise a desktop notification even when Messenger isn't the active tab, and clicking it opens the relevant conversation. The toggle explains itself when the browser has blocked notifications or doesn't support them.

Help Centre — The Intercom Help Centre is available in the web app, with a Help Centre toggle in Settings (on by default) so users can hide the launcher without a reload.

First-run product walkthrough — New users get a guided tour that points at the real interface and moves them through Chats, Communities, Broadcasts and Settings, with an additional announced tour of the Admin area for administrators. It can be skipped at any point, never reappears once finished, and can be replayed from Settings.

Feature feedback — Users can rate individual areas of Messenger with a thumbs up/down prompt, or give overall Messenger feedback at any time from the navigation rail. The prompt can be dragged out of the way and collapses to a small pill.

Support information in Settings — The bottom of Settings now shows the app version, organisation id and user id, so customers can quote them when raising a support case.

Improvements:

Community administration — Brings the V2 admin area to parity with the previous app and extends it:

  • community rows are listed A–Z, and the members popup shows the total member count in the title with members listed A–Z;

  • a new Hidden switch lets an administrator hide a community from every client (web, iOS and Android). The choice is stored centrally, survives moving between machines, and can no longer be undone by background group sync.

Conversation behaviour now matches the mobile apps — All of the following are applied consistently wherever a conversation is opened:

  • only the author can edit or delete their own message;

  • thread replies are available in communities only, and now open as a dedicated side panel.

  • group chats (3+ people) can be renamed and left, with a system message announcing the departure;

  • read receipts on your own messages in a group chat show a reader count that opens a "Seen by" list.

Chat and community lists stay up to date — Sidebar previews now update the moment a message arrives, is edited or is deleted, the conversation with the newest activity reliably moves to the top of the list, and unread badges clear when you open a conversation.
User role management opened up to customer administrators — Organisation admins can now promote in-app admins for the messenger app.

  • Corrected EVO Workspace Administrator recognition, which previously failed and could leave a genuine administrator with no admin access.

Diagnostics — Requests now carry the workspace user id and device/browser information for support and telemetry, improving traceability of issues raised by customers.
